Description
Spaced In for percussion sextet was commissioned by Ryan Brumbaugh and the Adna Pirate Percussion Ensemble in Chehalis, WA. This is a great piece for intermediate/advanced high school students with blues licks, cool Latin rhythms, and thematic manipulation!
When I programmed this work for UWM Youth Percussion Ensemble, we needed a work for 9 players instead, and had a great time with an expanded orchestration!
The title and themes of Spaced In are inspired by the way music can make us so focused, while at the same time it is easy to “zone out” to the music. So we are not “spaced out,” but rather; “spaced in!”
