Description

Variations evolved beautifully as an improvisation that was essentially a “comprovisation.”  During this works conception and recording, a theme is picked at the beginning.  Small variations and soloistic interludes occur between moments where the original motive is brought back into play.  After exploration in the middle section of the work, the tempo slows and the range is lowered for a haunting last presentation of the theme.

Variations is from a collection of five solos called “Comprovisations: A Songbook for Marimba” – which represents selections that I wrote out from an album of the same title.  Be sure to check out the collection before “checking out” of the store! 🙂
